Jabez Hollingworth, a young English laborer, left Huddersfield in October, 1826, bound for New York. He was soon joined by his brothers and a sister, his father, an aunt and uncle, and several cousins and acquaintances. Often separated, the family kept in touch by letter. The family settled first in Leicester, Mass. and worked at Leicester Manufacturing Company, a maker of woolen cloth.
